Gillian's Story
Gillian is 76 years old and lives with her husband John who is 80 and is suffering from memory loss.
Gillian contacted Homewise’s Memory Matters project and spoke to one of our skilled case workers Anne.
Anne arranged to carry out a detailed assessment of their needs and recommended equipment that would help the couple manage better in their own home.
Anne helped to get a grant from the local council to pay for this equipment.
She also helped apply for an attendance allowance and blue badge for John.
Zainab's Story
Zainab is in her late 80s, has respiratory problems and poor mobility.
Zainab lives in an old pre-1919 terraced property, she has been having problems with her central heating boiler, which had not been working for 6 weeks.
Following an assessment from Holly, one of our caseworkers, and a visit to the property by a qualified plumber the boiler was condemned.
We were able to help Zainab apply for a local authority grant to pay for a new boiler.

This work was carried out within two weeks of Zainab contacting Homewise
Jim's Story
Jim contacted Homewise because he was worried about jobs that needed doing at his home in Ribchester.
Jim had been fit and active all his life and had always been able to do these types of jobs himself but as he got older, and frailer he was finding it increasingly difficult to keep on top of things.
Homewise arranged for Tim one of our repairs technicians to visit Jim to have a chat about what needed to be done.
This work was booked in for the following week and although there is a charge for our handyperson / small repairs service Jim felt it was worth paying for the work just to give him peace of mind.
